Yes, I know someone who has had a gastric band operation. My family member underwent the procedure several years ago and it changed her life in many ways.
The Gastric Band Operation, also known as Laparoscopic Adjustable Gastric Banding or “LAGB”, is a weight loss procedure where a silicone band is placed around the upper part of the stomach to reduce its capacity for food and limit absorption of calories from meals. It’s considered one of the most successful bariatric procedures with studies showing that patients lose more than 50% of their excess body weight in about two years post-surgery.
My family member was severely overweight when she decided to undergo this surgery and like most people considering it she was anxious about all aspects: health risks, pain associated with the surgery itself and how long recovery would take. But she went through with it anyway because she knew that otherwise things could continue getting worse health wise due to her obesity if something didn't change soon.
In less than 8 weeks post-surgery my family member experienced amazing results – besides losing extra pounds very fast (almost 40 kg in one year!), her overall physical condition improved drastically as well; she felt much energized and active even after small effort activities, due mainly to an impressive increase in metabolism rate which kept growing progressively over time; triglyceride levels decreased significantly thus reducing cholesterol numbers too; lastly but not least blood pressure dropped quickly back to normal values - quite an achievement!
Overall we saw a massive improvement on my family's lifestyle by undergoing this type of bariatric surgery, which allowed them not only to get rid of those extra kilograms but more importantly enhanced their overall quality of life too thanks to increased self-confidence previously hindered by great morbidity levels provoked by severe obesity issues confronted before making such an important decision… And yet things are still improving every day!
