Q. How can I treat my subacute appendicitis?

Treating subacute appendicitis (which typically involves inflammation, infection and/or blockage of the appendix) can be complex and should be managed with close monitoring by a qualified health professional. Generally speaking, treatment for this condition falls into two categories: conservative management or surgery.
Conservative management is generally recommended if the patient's condition is stable, since it seeks to manage symptoms without resorting to surgery. This approach often includes antibiotics such as amoxicillin-clavulanate (Augmentin), cefuroxime (Ceftin), cephalosporins and metronidazole (Flagyl). The goal here is to reduce pain and swelling while preventing further spread of infection into surrounding tissue. Additionally, bed rest may also be advised; however, other forms of activity—such as walking—are often allowed in moderation once pain subsides substantially.
If an individual's symptoms are more intense or worsening despite treatment with antibiotics alone, surgery may become necessary. Laparoscopy is the most common surgical approach. During laparoscopic appendectomy—also known as keyhole surgery—a small incision is made in the abdominal wall through which one or two instruments are introduced under direct visualization; these instruments allow for removal of the appendix as well as any adjacent tissue that might have been affected by infection or inflammation. Once complete, sutures are placed within the incision which typically dissolves on its own within a few weeks' time; overall recovery from laparoscopic appendectomy takes between 4–6 weeks depending on each individual case but generally speaking results in very little postoperative discomfort when compared to traditional open appendectomy techniques that require longer healing times due to larger incisions required for adequate visualization during operation.
No matter which method you choose for treating your subacute appendicitis—whether it's conservative medical management or surgical procedure –it's extremely important that you follow your healthcare provider’s instructions carefully along with any aftercare guidelines they provide so you can experience a positive outcome while minimizing potential complications associated with this issue!
