Throat pain when swallowing can be very uncomfortable and sometimes even debilitating. Fortunately, there are several things you can do to reduce or alleviating throat pain when swallowing. Here's what to try:
Avoid irritants - Throat pain may result from an allergy or sensitivity to certain foods. Foods like dairy, citrus fruits, spicy dishes and acidic drinks can all contribute to throat irritation and make eating or drinking more painful than normal. In these cases, it is best to avoid the trigger ingredients that lead to the discomfort in the first place if possible.
Gargle with salt water – Salt water helps clean out your throat by washing away mucous build-up as well as any bacteria that could be causing irritation in your airways and esophagus while simultaneously soothing your sore throat with its antiseptic properties. To make a saltwater gargle solution at home, dissolve 1 teaspoon of table salt into 8 ounces of warm water then use this mixture for gargling three times per day for best results (but no longer than two weeks).
Lozenges – Sucking on lozenges will help moisten your mouth which allows for easier passage of food down your esophagus without causing additional damage/pain during swallowing activities throughout the day as long as you don’t swallow them whole! Look for lozenges containing menthol or similar ingredients that offer a numbing sensation in order get some extra relief from the soreness while they coat and protect any inflamed areas inside of your airway passages upon contact with saliva after dissolving quickly in your mouth..
Steam Therapy– Using a humidifier, breathing warm steam will help break up mucous stuck within swollen parts of the respiratory tract thereby helping relieve some tension due swelling so consuming meals becomes less painful experience overall! This cleansing thermal option also increases circulation around affected areas where inflammation has been detected which naturally helps facilitate healing processes during recovery periods too! Just don't forget not leave boiling hot cups of freshly brewed tea steaming into open areas around children before walking away unattended...safety first always no doubt!!
