Q. Is dialysis a very painful procedure?
Doctor Answer is medically reviewed by SecondMedic medical review team.
It can be uncomfortable, but most patients find it to be tolerable. Some people describe a feeling of fullness or heaviness in the abdomen after the procedure. Others may feel a sense of itchiness around the dialysis site. These sensations usually resolve within minutes to hours after the treatment is completed. Some people also experience cramping in their feet and legs during and/or after dialysis. If you experience any pain that does not go away, please notify your nurse or doctor immediately.
