The husband can do many things during the baby's delivery, including but not limited to:
- Be a source of support and comfort for his wife
- Help her with any breathing exercises or other relaxation techniques she may be doing
- Hold her hand and offer words of encouragement
- Give her sips of water or bite-sized snacks if she is allowed to have them during labor
- Rub her back, neck or arms in a comforting way
- Help to remove any clothing that is uncomfortable or in the way
- Help keep track of how much progress is being made by timing contractions and/or noting when the baby's head begins to show.
