Q. What type of exercise should be started after a baby delivery and from when?
Doctor Answer is medically reviewed by SecondMedic medical review team.
It is recommended that aerobic exercise be started as soon as the woman feels able. After delivery, the baby's immature digestive system is still adjusting to outside food and can be easily upset by new foods or spices in mom's diet. So for at least four to six weeks, it is best to eat bland foods and avoid vigorous exercise.
Once your baby is a little older and their digestive system has matured a bit more, you can gradually add more variety to your diet. You'll also want to start adding some resistance training exercises into your routine - starting light and gradually increasing the weight as you build strength. If you're breastfeeding, wait until you've been nursing for at least six months before beginning a strenuous weightlifting program.
