Q. What was your worst experience with diarrhea?
Doctor Answer is medically reviewed by SecondMedic medical review team.
My worst experience with diarrhea happened during a trip to India about two years ago. I was visiting for two weeks and the first day there, my stomach started feeling nauseous and upset. I thought it might be from eating some unfamiliar food so I went to bed early thinking the symptoms would go away in the morning.
Unfortunately, when morning came, they had not only persisted but intensified. Throughout the day, I experienced bouts of explosive diarrhea that quickly got worse as time went by - to a point where it felt like my insides were on fire. After dragging myself through an entire afternoon of uncontrollable motions, evening finally arrived and brought enough pain relief for me to finally get some much needed rest.
The next few days were just torture - no matter what medicine or remedy I tried nothing seemed to help relieve my symptoms; moreover any solid food sent spasms of pain throughout my abdomen and further added fuel to the fiery pit located deep in my gut. It wasn't until day five that things finally looked up: day five being when one of our group members found out about a local health-care shop offering personalized ayurvedic treatments tailored specifically according to each individual's needs!
After much trial and error (and several hours later), we managed to find one particular treatment method that worked wonders for me: it involved drinking several cups of herbal tea made from ginger along with fresh pineapple juice every hour - something which considerably reduced both inflammation levels as well as diarrheal activity! After ten more days spent drinking this tea regularly (along with plenty of freshly cooked vegetables) combined with copious amounts of rest and relaxation, everything eventually returned back homeostasis at long last in time for me getting ready for another great adventure abroad!
