Abdominal pain is a common symptom of dengue, and it can be severe in some cases. Dengue is caused by a virus that is spread by the bite of an infected Aedes mosquito. This virus causes an infection known as dengue fever, which can cause flu-like symptoms such as fever, headache, joint and muscle pain, a rash on the abdomen or limbs and fatigue.
The most common cause for abdominal pain in patients with dengue fever is due to inflammation (swelling) of organs located in the abdomen and pelvis. In some cases this may be caused by small internal bleeding from associated infections or immune responses to the virus itself. Other possible causes include irritable bowel syndrome, gastrointestinal infections or parasites contracted through contact with contaminated water sources such as swimming pools or recreational areas. These can lead to further discomfort such as cramping, bloating and difficulty passing stools along with general abdominal pains throughout the day.
In severe cases of dengue fever where symptoms become life threatening condition called Dengue Haemorrhagic Fever (DHF), abdominal pain can become very intense due to high levels of toxins circulating in the body after severe organ damage has occurred within the affected person’s system (shock). The high levels of toxins present in DHF lead to acute liver inflammation resulting in jaundice like symptoms accompanied with excruciating stomach cramps which would need immediate medical attention for proper diagnosis & treatment if left untreated could prove fatal!
Diagnosis for DHF includes tests based on liver function & biochemical profile changes; imaging/ultrasound scans also help identify any associated haemorrhagic complications during evaluation from doctors specializing in infectious diseases who treat each patient’s particular case differently depending upon their overall condition; prescribed medicines like oral rehydration salts help speed up recovery time & anti pyretics are used for controlling high temperatures during this period when rest & consumption fluids remain critical factors towards relieving abdominal pains linked with dengue!
