Hydrochlorothiazide is used alone or together with other medicines to treat high blood pressure (hypertension). High blood pressure adds to the workload of the heart and arteries. If it continues for a long time, the heart and arteries may not function properly.

ACE inhibitors can be good and bad for your kidneys. These are medications that tend to end in “-il,” like lisinopril, enalapril, and ramipril. ACE inhibitors are popular drugs for high blood pressure and heart failure.

In people with heart failure, enalapril decreases heart size and increases how much blood the heart can pump out. It also increases exercise tolerance, without having much of an effect on heart rate.

In such a case, either the diuretic should be discontinued or its dose should be reduced. If you have severe heart failure or your kidneys are already affected then there is a risk of kidney failure. You may not notice any difference after taking Envas for high blood pressure, it can only be noticed when you get your blood pressure checked. So, keep taking the medicine to feel better. If you are taking Envas for heart failure, it may take few weeks to months before you start feeling better.

You may have to take Envas for long time (even for life time), until and unless any serious side effect starts bothering and deters you from taking it. However, do not stop taking it without the advice of your doctor.
